Our officers:

Chief Shawn Brown was raised in Flatwoods by his grandparents Harlis and Virginia Brown. He graduated from Braxton County High School and then joined the Navy where he was part of the U.S. Navy Ceremonial Guard. He lived in Washington DC and upon completion of his military service joined the Metropolitan Police Department. Chief Brown earned several accolades in his 16 years with the department. Upon retirement, he returned to his hometown. When the position for Chief of Police opened in Flatwoods in 2017, he was happy to serve once again.

K9 Breck is a 4 year old German Shepherd, named for his birthplace Breckenridge, Colorado. Ultimate Working Dogs of St. Albans trained the team.. Chief Brown and K9 Breck became a certified team in February of 2021.

Breck has been deployed an innumerable amount of times and has been very successful in detecting narcotics.

At home, he loves to spend time outside and wants to be anywhere his dad is.

K9 Charley is a purebred Bloodhound, born June 27th, 2022. She is a West Virginia girl through and through, born in Martinsburg, West Virginia. Officially named Charlotte Jean, she is affectionately known as Charley Brown.

She is currently in training for Search and Rescue.

She trains with Court Clerk Lorie Brown.

Lorie Brown has been the Court Clerk for the Town of Flatwoods since July 2019. She is originally from Clarksburg and is a graduate of West Virginia University. Her full time job is with the West Virginia Lottery as a Lottery Financial Reporting Specialist 2.

She assists in the K9 training program and is in training with K9 Charley for Search and Rescue.

She also is the website administrator for the town.
